Famous River Cottage Canteen - is only a 5 minute drive from our B&B. You can either park at ours and get a taxi there or drive there in 5 minutes. Why not have lunch or dinner or taste the delights from their deli. You can also grab a coffee and a delicious piece of cake. They specialize in all-day dining, serving everything from excellent breakfasts in the morning through healthy, hearty lunches to sumptuous dinners every evening, with tea and cakes and snacks squeezed into the spaces in between. The building has been beautifully converted, and provides a big airy space to enjoy HFW's delicious food – breakfast can be anything from a well-priced Full English to granola and yoghurt; lunch, too, is great value, ranging from smaller dishes like merguez lamb meatballs and crab on toast to saddleback pork hash with a fried egg.

The dinner menu is similarly hearty and unpretentious, while at the same time being beautifully presented and cooked, with the emphasis on local produce – duck and lamb form nearby farms, Teignmouth mussels, local fish. They also do an excellent Sunday lunch, with various roasts on offer and including a number of veggie options. Hmmm, just writing about is making us hungry... get down there now, it really is one of the best places to eat in the area, at any time of day. You will find River Cottage Canteen reasonably priced and a large selection to cater for any tastes. Booking is recommended as opening times can vary in winter.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall established River Cottage HQ in 2004, and the operation is now based at Park Farm near Axminster in Devon. An organic smallholding, HQ is also the hub for a broad range of courses and events, and home to the River Cottage Cookery School.

Hugh’s broadcasting has earned him a BAFTA as well as awards from Radio 4, The Observer and the Guild of Food Writers. Besides more than 20 cookery-based series, Hugh’s TV work includes hard-hitting campaigns such as the highly influential Fish Fight, which brought about changes in fisheries law at the European level.
